Chapter 3

It was 6 months after that incident, where Ijiro had publicly displayed his ability to control the Flux. It was on the news for about a month or so before it died down, he had been interviewed time and time again by relevant authorities and reporters alike. Now everything was focused on the town's annual Paladin Memorial festival where all of the citizens gathered at the town square to celebrate the day the Paladin came into existence. The square was lighted so bright it lighted the night's sky, the atmosphere was especially lively considering how it was already 9 pm, it was extremely crowded as non of the city's citizens wanted to miss it and of course Ijiro and Asura were there. What should we do first?" Asura questioned clearly impatient.

"Food!" exclaimed Ijiro.

They went on an eating spree, they did that every year. The festival was always bursting with vendors selling different kinds of food, from the tastiest Ramen to the spiciest curry rice you could be sure to find it here. An hour later they were both stuffed, they had both reached their hurl limit and their budget. They continued watching many different kinds of performances, then did their prayers. They had always admired the gods, everyone of humanity did. Wishing to be blessed so that they can become the legendary Paladin. The shrines were lined up for quite a long way, everyone wanted to pray to them in hopes of being blessed. Ijiro and Asura queued for everyone of them. It took them about an hour or 2 to get through all of them but they did not mind. They had always respected the gods and thanked them for how they blessed heroes to fight in the Great War. They had learnt about it in their history lessons at school and like every other person wished to be one.

Eventually the aliveness of festival seemed to have died down. Families returned as time passed their children's curfew. All that was left were adults drinking, Ijiro and Asura didn't have parents and as a result didn't have to go home. Although most of the stalls were closing down they still wandered around the city square.

"What should we do now?" Asura asked exhausted from the endless partying.

"I dunno, maybe we can get home?"

"Urghhhh fine"

It was already fairly late at that time, past midnight. The lights were out in everyone's houses and they were the only ones on the street. It wasn't ideal for them to be walking home at this late of an hour considering their age but they had no choice, either they slept on benches in the square or went home. They had came across an alleyway when they heard the cries of a young lady.

"No, please don't, please don't!"

"Aw come on little lady, we ain't gonna do no harm"

"Yea we ain't" Judging from the voices Ijiro assumed a lady was cornered by two men, if there was a third he was awfully quiet.

"Should we help her?" Asura asked unfazed from the situation.

"Why are you even asking" Ijiro replied with a more serious tone in his voice.

They went into the alleyway, Ijiro was right, a young lady was being cornered by two men. She seemed frightened as clearly she knew she was no match for her opposition.

"Step away from the lady!" Ijiro shouted trying to sound as confident as possible. The two men just laughed, clearly Ijiro was no match for them two, he was just a little boy, they were almost double his size, both height and width. One thing they lacked though was knowledge, as the two men advanced in Ijiro's direction, they were unaware of Asura, who had climbed the pipe located on the side of one of the buildings. She perched on one of the chimneys on the roof, brick tiles in her arms, for her size it would make any stranger think she was weak but Ijiro knew otherwise. The Flux could do many things, including making the strength of a little girl tenfold. As Asura adjusted her aim, the two men were getting awfully close.

"You shouldn't stick your nose in other people's business little boy" one of them declared

"Yea now you're gonna pay the price for it" the other agreed. as they attempted to lock their grubby arms around Ijiro, brick tiles smashed into their skulls simultaneously. Asura hadn't just thrown a single brick, she had thrown two using both arms, which if any ordinary person tried would probably make them miss their target by a mile. The two men collapsed immediately, the tiles cracking their skulls on impact.

"Thank you so much! H-h-how did you do that?"  the women asked gazing at the direction of Asura who still stood perched on the roof.

"Luck"

"Tha-thank you so much, both of you! Please, tell me your names, I owe you two much debts."

"Well, I'm Asura and that boy over there is my brother Ijiro" Ijiro waved in response to his name.

"Well congratulations to you two, today is your lucky day"

Ijiro and Asura exchanged looks trying to find answers, they were expecting something more like an introduction or an thank you, not a congratulation.

"I see you two are confused" the young lady continued, both of them nodding in unison.

"How should I put this? You two are chosen!"

"For what?" Ijiro implied, he had a small idea of what she was going to say, and was in fact right.

"You are both chosen to be the amazing, spectacular, legendary Paladin!!!"

"Both of us?" said Ijiro, excitement boiling up inside of him.

"Yes both of you!"

"Doesn't that mean we have to be blessed by some god?"

"Well that'll be me! The all mighty Bishamonten, goddess of war!"
