Ijiro Hachiro was decently sized for his age, with a round face and mesmerizing ocean blue eyes, he could be considered quite 'persuasive'. He had black hair and a simple attire made almost entirely out of cotton with the exception of his leather boots. He was a very calm and quiet boy, quiet waiting for the baker to bake his bread and calm enough to wait 6 hours for school to finish without bursting with boredom and yet could not keep his distaste in check any longer. He had came across a electronic sign board displaying the recently updated rankings of the 10 races that ruled over Oppaeshia. As usual humanity was last, they always were, with no magical or offensive capabilities, they were no use in battle and were no use to any other. Humanity was considerably quite compared to the other races, they would never participate in any tournaments nether less war. The king would only meet with the kings of other races if he absolutely had to and thus being fairly quiet in the Oppaeshian economy, food and healthcare were all made and traded inside the city and yes, they only had one city called Okirai. Anymore and it would make humanity seem like a threat, but Okirai was a nice and big city, it was surrounded by walls a hundred meters tall with siege towers strategically scattered around it for various defensive reasons. No one was allowed outside the wall, unless permitted permission. He had always wondered what was outside the wall, the thought trailed alongside him all the way till he had reached his home.
His home was a small one floored hut made primarily out of straw, it had 4 rooms, a living room, bedroom, kitchen and a bathroom, it was more than enough considering he and his sister were the only ones in it, their parents had died in battle just a few months after Asura, Ijiro's sister was born. It was around that time when the king had finally decided to shut off Okirai from the rest of the world. Ijiro was only 4 at that time and he and his sister were raised by their neighbors and as he turned 10, it seemed Ijiro was old enough to take care of his sister and himself, it was also the time where their neighbors decided they were too much of a burden to take care of considering they already had a child of their own. His memories of his parents were very vague, the sound of their voices were long since forgotten but he could see their faces anytime they wanted, from their graves of course. And 4 more years had past and now Ijiro and his sister were living alone. They got their salary from the government and it was enough for the to sustain themselves, food, clothes, medication, the only problem was boredom, it had grown ever so apparent over the past years, he wanted more, he dreamed of the endless possibilities outside the walls and how we would be able to venture out in the open without any rules, but it was and will only be a dream he thought.
As he opened the rusty metal door which led him into the living room, he was greeted by Asura, now 13, just a year younger than Ijiro. Wearing what seemed to be a silken robe, it was clear her attire wasn't any better than Ijiro's. With leather sandals for shoes and simple cotton pants, her face was pale and spotless yet lazy shaped as an oval, her long black hair was neatly combed as always cascading down her back, her scarlet eyes were the only things that stood out. It twinkled under the scorching sun and had always provided Ijiro with a sense of comfort.
"Did you get the groceries yet?" Asura had inquired in a tone so sloppish that it seemed as if she would commit suicide out of boredom at any moment.
"Yes"
That was all he needed to say, as Asura took the bags from his hands and walked into the kitchen. Ijiro went to his room, or their room. Aside from being a bedroom it was also where they planned the many ways they were going to leave Okirai, it had gotten too boring for them. They narrowed it down to the best two possible ways where it was guaranteed they would not be imprisoned or executed, they could either wait 5 years until both of them turned 18 to join the Frontiers, which were a group of people trained to fight offensively or for one of them to be chosen to be the legendary Paladin. The Paladin was once a a legendary hero blessed by Bishamon, the god of war and good fortune to help bring humanity back from it's ashes. He was strong enough to tear apart armies single-handedly by controlling the Flux system. Unfortunately he was killed during the Great War when he fought alongside the Old Ones (others blessed by gods or deities) against a greater evil. It was now centuries later where Ijiro hopes to be him and thus he decided, he would not be able to wait 4 more years and decided that he (or his sister) would become the legendary Paladin. It was then when his thought was stopped abruptly by the sound explosion near their neighborhood.
"Did you hear that?" yelled Asura hurrying into the room.
"Yea, I wonder what happened." it was almost impossible for explosions to occur this deep in Okirai. He came up with 2 conclusions, either some no brainer lighted a dynamite on accident or it was one of the Seal's air raids in which almost meant the end of humanity.
"Beats me but I want to find out"
They dashed across town to come to the site of the explosion, thankfully it was not an air raid by the Seals, unfortunately it was not an accidental dynamite set off either. Smoke and flames poured out of a nearby house and the screams of a baby could be heard inside. Water did nothing to the flames, it would only reappear right after being doused. The flames were getting bigger, slowly crawling to the second floor - where the family was. His ocean blue eyes gaing at Asura for consent, she nodded back and Ijiro did the only thing any non-rational 14 year old would do, he ran in.
